I had homes found for 4 out of 5 kittens. Buttercup and Poppy were even going home together! Stuff happens, though, and two of the takers had to back out. Taking on a new pet is a big responsibility (or it should be), and if your circumstances change, or you don't feel confident you can afford it, don't do it.
It looks like Blaze, and possibly Buttercup, will be staying with us - my daughter is elated. Poppy will likely go to live with my father-in-law. Ash and Lucky have homes, and their new humans are so excited!
I already have Samantha booked for her spay appointment. It's hard to believe the kittens are almost 5 weeks old. Buttercup is eating a little soft food and has figured out the litter box. The others..not so much.
Please spay and neuter your pets and please do NOT drop them off at someone else's house if you can't afford to take care of them. It creates an extra burden on that person, and may even end up in the poor animal's death. The cats who have been dropped at my house, or show up here out of the blue, have been lucky, but not everyone is as fond of cats as I am.

Three weeks old today!

Have you checked out the Resources page?
See those tabs up top? On the Resources page, you will find links to organizations that offer free or low cost spay and neuter services, as well as a links to shelters or rescue groups that cater specifically to cats.
Lots of humane societies and rescue groups are overwhelmed by the number of cats that come in. Cats are prolific breeders. With short gestation periods, they can have TWO litters per year.

That's a lot of cats!

Who are Buttercup and Poppy?
Buttercup and Poppy are two adorable kittens born to a stray named Samantha. Samantha showed up (literally) on our front porch a few months back, skeletal and skittish of humans. Before we could take her to be spayed, she disappeared. When she showed up nearly a month later, she was hugely pregnant. Five adorable kittens came into the world and we hope they will be adopted to new homes when they are old enough.
Samantha has become a beloved member of the family, but she still needs care, and so do her kittens.
What they need:
-Samantha will need to be spayed and receive rabies and other vaccinations and deworming in a few weeks, when the kittens are weaned. We are treating her for fleas with a spray recommended by the vet as safe for kittens (Frontline spray). I plan to get a Seresto collar for her when the kittens are old enough.
-The kittens will need vaccinations, deworming and consistent flea treatment when they are old enough. They will also need to be adopted to loving homes! (If you're interested, please send an e-mail. We are in Batesville, MS)
Any money not used toward the treatment of these kittens will go toward helping out other stray animals in our community. Stray cats and dogs are a huge problem where I live. They are either dropped off, or left to roam. I want to change the lives of those I can help. (I am working on a non-profit, but for now it's just me!) Our local Humane Society has no place to house cats, and they are already overburdened with the dogs they are able to help.
